About

Camp Bighorn is an outdoor adventure camp that seeks to embody the love of Jesus and develop Christ-honoring leaders. Bighorn’s core values are based on Matthew 22:37-39, which include loving God and loving others. The Journey Resident Assistant (RA) provides direct leadership to the Journey participants, implementing expectations and fostering a healthy community. The RA assists Bighorn Staff in facilitating classes, adventures, and out trips. The RA plays a crucial role in the Journey program by focusing on relationships and individuals, seeing group dynamics, and providing a safe space for Journey participants. All staff and volunteers at Camp Bighorn serve as needed to make our programs run smoothly. Journey is the primary focus of the RA position, but there will be times when you partner with the students as well as the full time staff to help run programming for other groups that visit Camp Bighorn.

Commitment

July 30, 2025 - April 20, 2026

Resident Assistants (RAs) are expected to arrive on Wednesday, July 30th. Team training will begin the following morning, July 31st, at 9:00 AM. The Journey staff and RAs will spend the first two weeks preparing for the participants’ arrival. The Journey program starts on August 14th.

There will be a six-week program break from November 21st to January 5th, during which all Journey participants and RAs will return home for the holiday season. RAs are asked to return on Jan 4th, one day prior to the start of second semester.

Journey concludes on April 17th. RAs will stay until April 20th to participate in a staff retreat and to celebrate and review the year together.

Finances

This is a volunteer position and does not include financial compensation. However, Camp Bighorn will cover all expenses related to room, board, and program participation. Resident Assistants are permitted to raise a personal support stipend to help cover additional expenses such as insurance, cell phone bills, transportation, and entertainment.

Minimum REquirements

We prefer applicants for the Resident Assistant (RA) position to have completed the Journey program or a comparable program. Ideally, candidates will also have 1–2 years of relevant work or ministry experience. Additionally, being a minimum of 20 years old is advantageous, as the role involves leading young adults between the ages of 18 and 25.
